Innovation

Innovation and good UX design go hand in hand, true innovation isn’t just about introducing new technology or features but about creating meaningful, intuitive experiences that solve real user problems. A well-designed product removes friction, enhances usability, and anticipates user needs, making complex tasks feel effortless.

At Ivanti, innovation has always been at the forefront of UX design. However, when I first joined, UX had largely become a "mockup factory", executing requests from PMs without actively contributing new ideas or challenging assumptions. While the work we were doing was important and the PMs' insights were invaluable to the business, this reactive approach meant we were missing opportunities to drive strategic innovation.

One of the key challenges was that each product area had its own PMs and engineering teams, each focused mostly on their respective products. As a result, the bigger picture often got lost in siloed development efforts. However, because UX operated as a shared resource across multiple products and product areas, we had a unique vantage point, one that allowed us to see cross-product opportunities and think about innovation at a broader level.

Given Ivanti’s history of acquiring multiple companies, a major goal was to merge and unify solutions to create seamless cross-product experiences, enabling better upsell and cross-sell opportunities. This shift provided UX with the opportunity to drive real innovation, leading to the development of key strategic projects such as the Portfolio Dashboard, One Navigation, Unified Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), One Login, Common Reporting, DEX Reimagining, and ITSM+UEM integration. This transformation not only allowed UX to bring new ideas to the table but also helped build a more cohesive, integrated, and sticky portfolio of products. By shifting from a reactive to a proactive UX approach, we were able to shape the future of Ivanti’s product ecosystem, ensuring that innovation wasn’t just about individual features but about delivering holistic, user-centered solutions that enhanced the overall customer experience and strengthened the business.
