Team Building
Another major focus of my role as a Senior UX Manager is team building. A strong, well-supported team is the foundation of success, not just for myself, but for the company and every individual within the team. Great UX doesn’t happen in isolation; it’s the result of collaboration, shared knowledge, and a culture that fosters growth, innovation, and trust.
Having a strong team allows for better problem-solving, increased efficiency, and higher-quality design outcomes. It ensures that work is distributed effectively, preventing burnout while encouraging creativity and ownership. A well-built team also promotes mentorship, continuous learning, and career development, helping designers refine their skills and advance in their roles.
At Ivanti, I played a key role in hiring top talent and was deeply involved in the growth and promotion of many designers on my team. I worked individually with each designer to identify areas for improvement and provide opportunities to build new skills. To support professional development, I secured budgets for learning resources such as the Interaction Design Foundation, LinkedIn Learning, and other industry-recognized courses. Additionally, I advocated for designers to attend conferences and events, ensuring they stayed at the cutting edge of UX trends and emerging technologies.
To foster cross-product experience and adaptability, I ensured that designers had the opportunity to work on multiple products and projects, expanding their skill sets and perspectives. I also established a buddy system, pairing junior designers with more senior team members or those experienced with specific products. This not only accelerated skill development but also enhanced team agility, allowing us to quickly adapt to shifting priorities and mitigate disruptions caused by attrition.
Under my leadership, the team thrived, earning multiple design patents and securing wins in company-wide hackathons and design competitions. By building a culture of learning, mentorship, and innovation, I helped shape a UX team that was not only highly skilled but also adaptable, engaged, and motivated to push the boundaries of great design.
